Many people are unaware that May 22nd marks the International Day for Biological Diversity. Biodiversity is the core of all life on Earth. Over the years, biodiversity has been declining rapidly. Defined as the "variety of life on Earth and all life," the decline of this biodiversity could spell hardships for our survivability if allowed to spiral out of control.

Biodiversity is vital to the health and well-being of our planet, consisting of the wide variety of plants, animals, and microorganisms existing on Earth and the ecosystems and ecological processes they are part of. Biodiversity provides the keys to our survival, like water, crops, animals, and a regulated climate with clean air to breathe.

Due to habitat destruction and climate change, all life on our planet is under serious threat. But what can we, the average person, do to help? The most simple yet effective solution is to spread awareness. Knowing there's a problem is the first step to work towards fixing it.
