August 3rd is National Watermelon Day. Over the millenniums, watermelon has been a great source of hydration to beat the heat haze of summer. But what are some other ways to cool off in this hot spell?
Drink something refreshing:
Drinking something like cold water or fruit juice is a great way to cool off from the inside.
Cover your windows:
Covering your windows will block extra heat from becoming trapped in your house. You can use curtains or even aluminum foil to reflect the light outside.
Cool off in water:
Swimming or applying water to your body is one of the quickest ways to cool down. You can even bring a spray bottle for when you get overheated when going out.
Cool strategically:
By cooling areas where veins are closest to the skin, you can rapidly lower your body temperature. These areas include your wrists, chest, neck, and temples.
Wear light, breathable clothing:
By wearing more natural fabrics such as cotton or linen, less body heat will be trapped.
Move less:
Moving causes our bodies to heat up. It's best to avoid strenuous activities in the heat when able.
Wear sunscreen:
If you're out in the sun, the best thing you can do is wear sunscreen. Besides sunburns, unprotected skin has a higher risk of skin cancer, hyperpigmentation, and increased wrinkles.
