August 19th marks National Aviation Day, observing the soaring development in flight and aircraft. Why August 19th? It's the birthday of Orville Wright, one of the men credited with building the first plane alongside his brother Wilbur.

Aviation Day also serves as a reminder of the importance of air travel in our modern world. From trade to tourism, it isn't easy to envision our modern world without aviation and all its advantages.

We've come a long way since the first plane. You can take a plane to nearly anywhere in our modern day; we've even gone to space. Aviation Day is a perfect day to look back and reflect on the incredible progress we've made when it comes to reaching for the stars.

For those interested in a career in aviation, ISU offers an Aircraft Maintenance Program.  More information on the program can be found here.
